Competition rules

Each Secondary School in the Greater Wellington Region is invited to submit a maximum of two short films. 

Films can be of any genre or theme, our main focus is on the quality of the story telling, so get planning and writing that script!

To enter, a school must first register and in doing so accepts the terms and conditions.

Each registered school will receive access to exclusive online candid film making tips from respected Film Production / Post Production personnel.

Each registered school received more information in February 2017 around the two required elements and line of dialogue that must be included in the film. They are: Gumboots, Beanie and the line of dialogue is "Good One", "Ka pai" or the equivalent in any language you choose.

Films are to be a maximum of five minutes and a minimum of 45 seconds in length.

The deadline for film submissions is 5pm on Wednesday the 12th of April 2017.

All teams who have submitted a film will be invited to attend the awards ceremony at the Roxy Cinema on Wednesday the 17th of May 2017, where all entries will be shown on the big screen. All prizes will be announced on the night. Prizes include: Winner and Runner up - these teams will have their films professional remade with our industry mentors, Peoples Choice - This team will receive a full day tour of film making facilities in Miramar.  Also this year we have three new categories: Best Original Musical Score, Best VFX and Best Wardrobe and Make-up.Time frames for remaking of films will be scheduled closer to the time and in conjunction with the winning teams.

In December 2017 the two winning films may be shown to their schools at an assembly or school meeting and will also be screened at the Capital E National Arts Festival in March 2019 as part of the Young and Cinematic programme.
